  Suffered a broken back and broken neck on ejection. Captured, held for 3 months in the jungle. He then marched barefooted, at night, amidst U.S. bombing raids, up the Ho Chi Minh Trail about 350 miles eating only rice balls and suffering from skin rashes and boils over his entire body. He not only survived, but resisted his capturers until release in 1973.
