Women have featured prominently in aviation since the earliest days of flight.  Intrepid parachute descents were being performed by females throughout the 19th Century and when powered flight was achieved women were pioneers among the first aviators.

 Modern Air Forces recruit female pilots who face the same dangers as their male counter-parts. Egress from a stricken aircraft is trained for and the challenge given to ejection seat manufacturers to design ejection seats to cater for the whole range of aircrew physiological types has been met and yielded successful results.
